There are often quick and easy fixes available for issues with missing rigging and/or animation. Below are some of the most common solutions.
The rig is missing
- The rig is hidden in the viewport
Sometimes, an artist will hide the rig in viewport in order to minimize the amount of visible objects. To see if a rig is hidden try using the “Unhide/Show all” feature or toggle an object’s/layer’s visibility. - The file format you are using does not include a rig.
Rigging controls are generally application-specific. Artists will often provide multiple file formats for a model, and for the reason above, some formats may not contain rigging. It is important check the product description for details about the limitations of the file format. If a model is only rigged in specific formats, artists will provide that information for you in the product description. For example: "The model is rigged in 3ds max and Cinema 4D only. Models in other available formats do not include rigging." - You are using an exchange format such as .obj, .dae, .3ds, or .fbx
While exchange formats are compatible with a variety of 3d applications, you may lose specific features, such as rigging, when importing them into various software packages. Generally, the .fbx format is the only exchange format that can retain any type of rigging. However, depending on how the rig, was created you may see some loss in functionality. The animation is missing
- The animation is provided as a separate file
Sometimes an artist will provide the animation as a separate file to give customers the option to work with either an animated or an un-animated file. To determine if a separate animation is available, go to your Order History and download the individual files. Separate animation files will be designated as such. - The file format you are using does not include animation.
