Question
Why are documents notarized?
Answer
Documents are notarized to deter fraud and to ensure they are properly executed. An impartial wintness (the Notary) identifies signers to screen out imposters and to make sure they have entered into agreements knowingly and willingly.
Question
How does a Notary identify a signer?
Answer
Generally, the Notary will ask to see current identification documents or a card with a photograph, physical description and a signature. A driver's license, a military ID or a passport will usually be acceptable. Please ask the Notary you will plan to use in advance what identification will be needed for the documents you need notarized.
